Abstract

This research presents a comparative study of the points of agreement between Tafsir Habibi by Maulana Habib Ur Rahman and Tafsir Al Manaar by Allama Rashid Razaa, with particular focus on the first two rukūʿs of the second Juzʾ of the Holy Qurʾān. The study aims to identify and analyze the areas in which the two exegetical works converge in their interpretation, explanation, and understanding of the Qurʾānic verses. Although the two scholars belonged to different intellectual and scholarly contexts, their works demonstrate significant similarities in several aspects of Qurʾānic interpretation. The research examines these agreements in relation to the explanation of Qurʾānic vocabulary and expressions, clarification of meanings, interpretation of legal and theological issues, identification of moral and social guidance, and the elucidation of the broader objectives of the Qurʾānic discourse. The study also highlights the methodological features reflected in these areas of agreement and demonstrates how both exegetes sought to understand the Qurʾān in the light of its context, linguistic implications, Prophetic guidance, and the practical requirements of Muslim society. Through a comparative and analytical approach, the research establishes that the similarities between the two Tafsīrs are not merely incidental but reflect a considerable degree of convergence in their interpretation of the selected portion of the Qurʾān. The study therefore contributes to a better understanding of the exegetical approaches of Maulana Habib Ur Rahman and Allama Rashid Razaa and provides a basis for further comparative research on their respective works.
