Abstract

Harun al-Rashid was the fifth Abbasid caliph, his ruled from 786-809, during the peak of the Islamic Golden Age Its eras were marked by scientific, cultural and religious prosperity. The art of music also flourished remarkably during his reign. He established the legendary library Bayt al-Hikmet (“house of wisdom”) in Baghdad in present day Iraq, and during his rule Baghdad began to flourish as a center of knowledge, culture and commerce. Among the most famous literature and scholars who lived in the era of Rashid is the poet Abu Al-Atahiya and Abu Saeed Al-Asma’i, Imam Al-Shafi’i, the owner of the Shafei school of thought, and Imam Malik bin Anas, the owner of the Maliki school of jurisprudence.
